addClass removeClass toggleClass

Setup & DOM · 1 — Select · ~6 min · DOM Updates

What is this?

addClass adds class names, removeClass strips them, and toggleClass flips presence. Space-separated names work in one call. Prefer classes over inline css for UI states.

Why should you care?

Active tabs, validation errors, and busy buttons in QueryVerse are class-driven states.

What happened?

  • toggleClass(name, state) forces on/off when state is boolean.
  • removeClass() with no args strips all classes — usually too blunt.
  • Keep state class names meaningful (is-open, is-invalid).

Practice next

  1. Click tabs and watch .active move.
  2. Force muted with the boolean toggleClass form.
  3. addClass("active highlight").
  4. Add is-busy on a save button while posting.
  5. toggleClass("open") on a sidebar.

Remember

Classes express UI state. toggleClass can take a boolean. One active tab at a time.

Settings tabs

A Chargebee-like SaaS QueryVerse settings page switches Overview vs Billing with shared panel markup.

Outcome: add/remove/toggleClass keep tab state visible and consistent.
