Batch DOM Updates

Setup & DOM ✓Events Effects AJAX ✓Perf & IntegrateShip & Projects

Perf & Integrate · 3 — Harden · ~10 min · Performance and Security

What is this?

Minimize live-DOM thrashing by building markup or nodes off-DOM, then inserting once. String concatenation into one .html() or a DocumentFragment-style approach beats N appends in a loop on large lists.

Why should you care?

QueryVerse report tables feel faster when the tbody swaps in one paint.

Examples include the jQuery 3.7 CDN. Paste into an HTML file or use Run Example to preview.

What happened?

  • Prefer text-safe builders when data is untrusted — build with $("
  • ").text and a fragment if needed.
  • Measure before micro-optimizing small lists.

Practice next

  1. Run both paths and feel the difference.
  2. Inspect the list length.
  3. Refactor fast path to use .text builders.
  4. Try a DocumentFragment with vanilla append.
  5. Virtualize if rows exceed thousands.

Remember

Batch writes. One insert > many inserts. Still sanitize content.

Report tbody swap

A Tally-like QueryVerse GST report redraws 200 lines after each filter.

Outcome: One html write keeps the UI responsive versus chatty appends.
