What is this?

CSS transitions and classes often outperform jQuery animate for hover, expand, and opacity. Use jQuery to toggle a class; let CSS own the motion.

Why should you care?

QueryVerse design systems already ship transition tokens — fighting them with animate doubles maintenance.

What happened?

  • Toggle classes from jQuery; keep durations in CSS.
  • Reserve jQuery effects for legacy pages without a design system or when you must animate non-CSS quantities.

Practice next

  1. Toggle the class and feel the CSS transition.
  2. Change the CSS duration to 400ms.
  3. Compare with $("#card").animate({marginTop: -2}) mentally.
  4. Add @media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) to kill transitions.
  5. Use transform/opacity for smoother GPU paths.

Remember

CSS owns most motion. jQuery toggles state classes. One source of timing values.

Design-system cards

A Freshworks QueryVerse theming team already defines motion in SCSS.

Outcome: toggleClass drives raises; CSS transitions do the work.
