What is this?

A jQuery plugin is a reusable function on $.fn that works on a collection, returns it for chaining, and hides internals. Start from a real repeated UI pain — not a framework fantasy.

Why should you care?

QueryVerse teams extract toasts, confirm modals, and table filters as tiny plugins once patterns stabilize.

What happened?

  • Prefer small plugins with one job.
  • Avoid plugins that force a global CSS framework.
  • Check whether a CSS class + 10 lines beats a dependency.

Practice next

  1. Paint the checklist.
  2. Pick a your page pain that deserves a plugin.
  3. Note event namespacing on the list.
  4. List plugins already in your repo.
  5. Decide toast vs modal as first extract.

Remember

Plugins extend $.fn. Return the collection. Options + namespaces.

Pattern extraction

A Persistent Systems project QueryVerse repeats the same confirm dialog on eight pages.

Outcome: The team agrees on a plugin checklist before coding.
